Who is Impact?
Impact Church is a group of Christ-followers gathering regularly to develop a new church with a new vision in Wilmington NC. We come from many different backgrounds, but all have one thing in common - a deep desire to be a church full of authentic Christians, in genuine relationship with the community and used by God to lead others to Himself.
Our Purpose
The church exists to worship God, produce mature authentic disciples, and to make Christ known to the ends of the earth. Although there are many functions and ministries in the context of the local church we will always stay focused on the overall purpose:
To love, seek, and imitate God so that He would be made known to the world.
Our Story
In July 2006, twenty-two people gathered together in a school cafeteria under the name of One Community Church. In attempting to do ministry how we had seen it work in the past, we learned quickly, those traditional approaches to ministry did not work the way we anticipated.
Over the course of two years, we learned three important lessons.
- Culture had changed - The church is losing influence and the opportunity to speak into people’s lives.
- Our approach was not fully biblical - Instead of waiting for people to come, we must go to them.
- We added to life’s busyness - Religious activities and busyness were detracting from living life together.
Over several months, using these three lessons, God brought clarity to the vision for this church. So in the fall of 2008, even as we continued to welcome new people and see life change in our attendees, the Elders of One Community Church made the important strategic decision to discontinue public services and focus on developing a new church fully in line with this clarified vision.
That new church is Impact Church of Wilmington.
